Hello friends! Happy early New Year, and all that jazz. It’s been a great year for myself, and the White Light series. I’m very proud to announce that we’ve reached Volume 50! Myself and series co-creator Matty C took the reigns on this one, and delivered a 2 part mix that showcases 2 of the main directions of the series – slow groove, spacey, new wave shit (first half), and the infectious, driving, vocal approach of the 2nd half. “When Matty C first told me about the White Light series, he kept coming back to a description of listening to music while driving at night. Since most of us in New York City don’t drive, traveling music has to be approached differently. So I set out to make a mix from records I never get a chance to play out that would provide the perfect soundtrack to the walking, turnstile hopping, dude-selling-his-beat-tape-out-front-of-Fat Beats-avoiding, taxi-hailing, dollar-van-riding, slice-grabbing, coffee-on-the-run-drinking, and then walking a little more that is getting around the Rotten Apple.”

“It’s been amazing to see this series blossom into what it has become! My last White Light mix (Vol 5) was one of my favourite mixes that I’ve ever done, but I wanted to go deeper on this one to really catch the ‘Night Driving / Zone Out’ vibe. This one is much less vocal, way more mind trip, and features some very strong productions from acts who are really pushing this sound. This is pretty heady, moody stuff, and the vocals that were picked resonate strongly with emotion. I hope this mix strikes a nerve and is the cosmic soundtrack along your ways. The White Light Mix Series

You may have seen my Facebook statuses, mailouts, or twitter updates about the series, but now It’s time to make a post. This is the series Matty C and I have been championing over the past year. We’ve got an official dot com, and a blogger back end, so come check out the site!

You can download the entire series, now with direct links, and even a poll to vote for your favorite of the first 10 mixes. Each mix has a bit of info on the DJ and how they were feeling, or the mood they were trying to go for with the mix. I did Volumes 3, and 5, and I’ve got 2 or 3 more editions just waiting to be recorded right now. Volume 5 is my all time favourite mixtape I’ve ever done, and I feel it perfectly encompasses the spirit of the series (As does the classic Vol 1!) so check it out if you haven’t!
